An unusual case of gustatory sweating.

چکیده
Facial sweating after food (gustatory sweating) is a recognized complication of long-standing insulindependent diabetes mellitus (Watkins, 1973). It is usually provoked by cheese, salty or spicy foods and accompanies other features of autonomic and peripheral neuropathy. The patient herewith reported is unusual in that he developed gustatory sweating as a major, but relatively isolated complication, whilst on treatment with oral hypoglycaemic agents, albeit during a period of deteriorating diabetic control.

A case of gustatory sweating.
Profuse facial sweating on eating is a rare phenomenon of interest not only as a clinical problem but also as a means of elucidating the complex mechanism of the nervous and hormonal control of perspiration. Of the cases described hitherto all except one have occurred as a result of sympathetic paralysis particularly in the distribution of the auriculo-temporal nerve. The present case is unusua...
متن کاملAn unusual cause of Frey syndrome.
We present the case of a young woman who complained of gustatory sweating of the skin of the submandibular region after resection for oral cancer, neck dissection and reconstruction with a radial forearm free flap. This is unusual after neck dissection and particularly so after selective neck dissection that did not need adjunctive radiotherapy.

Possible pathophysiological hypotheses are discussed in relation to the anatomy and...

m C m Gustatory sweating is a fairly common complication after surgery or injury of the parotid gland. The pathogenesis is based on aberrant nerve regeneration between the parasympathetic fibers of the salivary glands and the sympathetic fibers of the cutaneous sweat glands or blood vessels. Inappropriate inneration leads to local cutaneous sweating and vasodiation during mastication. A similar...
متن کاملFrey's syndrome after condylar fracture: case report.
Frey's syndrome is the occurrence of hyperesthesia, flushing and warmth or sweating over the distribution of the auriculotemporal nerve and/or greater auricular nerve while eating foods that produce a strong salivary stimulus. Frey's syndrome is also known as auriculotemporal syndrome and gustatory sweating. We present a case of Frey's syndrome after a condylar fracture and its treatment by int...
